VMAs: Irreverent or Irrelevant

So once again the VMAs are here and once again I am finding it very hard to care. Don't get me wrong- I do like seeing the performance highlights. And it is the one day a year you are sure catch actual music on MTV. I just can't help but feel like what's the point?

If you were following me at all this past year, you know how I feel about MTV's current direction. Also, their current attitude about their direction. I posted a link today on my facebook page that discussed Adam Levine and his attitude toward's tonight's festivities. I say "AMEN". You can't ignore music all year long in favor of shows about fake Italians and teenagers who never got (or paid attention in) sex education and then pretend like that's ok because you have an "edgy" music awards show one night. I especially love the smart reply they wrote back to him. To me, it shows an arrogance and a tone deafness to what the industry and the fans both need and want. To put it simply.... "I want my MTV". The real MTV. Not the reality show wasteland it is now.

What makes me sad about this is the VMAs were appointment TV for me when I was a tween/teen growing up in the late 80s/90s. I would stay up late that night to watch the performances and root for my favorite artists. Thanks to their current programming line-up, I don't even know who most of the nominees are, much less what the songs and videos are like. I would say boycott the VMAs but I don't really feel that is the answer to the problem. It would just be the excuse to get rid of the last bit of music they've got. Instead.... enjoy the performances tonight and/or the youtube clips tomorrow .

The Voice Finale

So, I have to say that I am really disappointed in the results of the show last night. I'm not saying that Javier is not talented, I'm just saying that I think the others were better and showed a steady growth through the competition and he did not. I kept waiting for Adam to call him out at some point for not taking his notes to heart and toning things down.

I'm ba-ack....

I know I haven't posted much lately, but I have been sick and really not up do doing anything requiring any actual thought. :) Anyway... I'm feeling better and ready to talk about the latest episodes of The Voice and CMT's Next Superstar.

The Voice: Battle Rounds Take 2

Battle one thoughts... I think Nakia should win based on voice alone. Tje's voice fits the song better, though.

ElenOwen/Jared: I'm rooting for ElenOwen. I think their voices worked with that song better. Still, I like Jared too and will be interested to see what he performs next time.

Angel vs Javier should've turned out differently. I liked Angela and thought Javier didn't do what was asked of him: "sing less". I'm surprised that Adam didn't say something about that.

Battle 4: I gotta go with hometown girl Beverly. Justin's great, but I think her voice is just so much more interesting. It's different than most people out there.

The Voice

So, I have a new TV obsession, The Voice. For those who have not seen it yet, here's a run down. There are four judges (Cee Lo Green, Adam Levin of Maroon 5, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton. The judges sit in huge chairs with their backs to the contestants so they can not see who is singing... they're just focusing on their voice. When a judge decides they really like a person, they press a button that allows them to turn around and see the singer.
