Alexz Johnson: Voodoo Vs. Reloaded

So, it's been awhile since I mentioned doing this but had a hard time getting my thoughts in order with this one. Anyway.... here is my take on Voodoo and Reloaded. Let me know which is your favorite! Feel free to share your favorite songs, too! Voodoo was an amazing record and one that I think most pop stars here would not even attempt to make. The lyrics are quirky, it sounds different than a lot of the songs out there and I think that's what made it great. It was a simple record where the production wasn't clearly geared towards hiding the singer's voice (or lack thereof). Instead it highlighted it.

Musical Philosophy, Take 2....

Today's bit of musical philosophy comes from Alexz Johnson and her song "Trip Around the World" featured on the CD Voodoo.

Stop and take a second look around this town
Things are changing all the time
Keep it in mind when you're feeling kicked down
The doubt, the trouble and the drought
You take it in before it takes you out

I think this is my favorite phrase on the whole CD. I love how that whole song (and this bit in particular) reminds you to just relax and take things in but don't let the negativity bring you down. What do you all take from this? Is there another one you would have used instead? Comment back and let me know.

A Change of Pace (Alexz Johnson news and Voodoo Reloaded/Announcement)

So, I thought it was time to make a change for a day. Instead of doing a song challenge, I would do a post updating Alexz fans on some new developments. About 20 minutes ago, Alexz posted a tweet announcing The Basement Recordings.

On August 26th, Alexz and her brother Brenden will release The Basement Recordings. The disc will be made up mostly of songs from her unreleased Epic CD along with some VooDoo tracks and Instant Star songs. Check the link for a complete track listing. She's also provided lyrics and it looks as though samples of all the tracks will be posted as well. I, for one, can't wait to see this get released. How about you? Post your comments below...

In other news, I am still working on some thoughts on Voodoo/Reloaded. It's been a bit difficult to get it down because I am not quite sure what I think of the remix disc. It will be out soon, though, and I am also looking to do a review/feature of the new CD when it's released. I guess that's about it for now. See ya next time.... I leave you with a video of Alexz performing one of the unreleased songs:

Reloaded

So, the album is now officially out on itunes/on Alexz's official website and it's already off to a good start. It's now number 59 on the itunes pop chart and will likely continue to climb throughout the day. If you drop by her official site today, she'll be streaming the full album so you can check it out before you buy... always a nice bonus!

Also, she's hosting a web chat tonight at 5 PM eastern. Check the official site or twitter account (@alexzjohnson) for a link to join in when it starts. Are you gonna be there? Be sure to drop by after and leave a comment letting my know how it was.

For now, I'm out of here. Check back in the next day or so for a compare/contrast of the two albums and maybe some other stuff. For now... I leave you with a little blast from the past. It's Alexz pre-Voodoo performing a song on the Disney show "So Weird". Enjoy!

Voodoo Reloaded

I mentioned before that I was looking forward to hearing Alexz Johnson's Voodoo Reloaded and that it would be released in April. Well, now we have the official release date and cover art. The CD will be available on April 26th and Alexz has already started doing some interviews about the project.

As a fan of the original Voodoo, I am not sure how I feel about the Remix idea. I do know I love the new version of "Trip Around the World", while the new "Boogie Love" has yet to grow on me. Still, I am looking forward to seeing what direction these tracks have gone in and doing a compare and contrast post about the two once Reloaded is out. In the meantime, here is a little video for you of Alexz performing a duet with Jimmy Robbins. The song is called "Lost This War" and was written by the two of them. Enjoy and I'll see ya again soon!
