Lyrical Thought of the Day... and some Lady Antebellum Favorites

Since their new CD, Own the Night, came out today, I figured it was only fitting to use Lady Antebellum for my Lyrical Though of the Day. It comes from a song called "I Was Here":

I wanna do something that matters, say something different
Something that sets the whole world on its ear

Before I post some thoughts on Voodoo/Reloaded and The Basement Recordings, I wanted to share some lyrics from "Spin" to celebrate the release of her new CD. This is one of my favorite songs on The Basement Recordings so far...

The album is now available on Itunes and Amazon and includes 15 tracks. Alot of the tracks were originally supposed to be included on her debut record with Epic. There are also original demos of songs from Instant Star and Voodoo.

Musical Philosophy, Take 2....

Today's bit of musical philosophy comes from Alexz Johnson and her song "Trip Around the World" featured on the CD Voodoo.

Stop and take a second look around this town

Things are changing all the time

Keep it in mind when you're feeling kicked down

The doubt, the trouble and the drought

You take it in before it takes you out

I think this is my favorite phrase on the whole CD. I love how that whole song (and this bit in particular) reminds you to just relax and take things in but don't let the negativity bring you down. A Change of Pace (Alexz Johnson news and Voodoo Reloaded/Announcement)

So, I thought it was time to make a change for a day. Instead of doing a song challenge, I would do a post updating Alexz fans on some new developments. About 20 minutes ago, Alexz posted a tweet announcing The Basement Recordings.

On August 26th, Alexz and her brother Brenden will release The Basement Recordings. The disc will be made up mostly of songs from her unreleased Epic CD along with some VooDoo tracks and Instant Star songs. Check the link for a complete track listing. She's also provided lyrics and it looks as though samples of all the tracks will be posted as well. I, for one, can't wait to see this get released. How about you? Post your comments below...

In other news, I am still working on some thoughts on Voodoo/Reloaded. It's been a bit difficult to get it down because I am not quite sure what I think of the remix disc. It will be out soon, though, and I am also looking to do a review/feature of the new CD when it's released. I guess that's about it for now. See ya next time.... Favorite Songs.....

So, I have created a bunch of play lists on my youtube channel featuring some of my favorite tracks. I thought I would do some posts to talk about why these are favorites of mine.

I'm gonna start off with something a little bit different. Most of you know that country is my favorite genre and it's mostly what I listen to and sing. I do like a lot of of other stuff, to- like Metal (specifically Metallica). The first song of theirs I chose to put up and feature is "Until It Sleeps". The thing that gets me the most about this song are the lyrics- they're so honest and you can feel the pain and the anger in them, especially when combined with James' vocals.

So tear me open and put me out
There's things inside that scream and shout
And the pain still hates me
So hold me until it sleeps

This has to be one of my favorite parts of the whole song. I think that it really captures that emotion I was talking about and I think most people can relate to it at one point or another. Finally.... I gotta give some love to the video itself. I remember watching it and thinking "this is art"... the imagry was striking and really enhances the song; something that alot of other videos don't do.

So, there ya go.... why I chose to put "Until it Sleeps" in my playlist. What about you? Do you like it? Hate it? Comment below....

That right there expresses my thoughts on music perfectly. I love how putting a certain song on can get you in a great mood or help you work out anger or sadness. Other times they are the perfect thing to play to inspire you or help you get through your work. Lately, I have come across a bunch of new music and I'm getting ready to check it all out so I can share my thoughts on them and hear what you think as well. Adele, Tiffany and the latest Xtina CD are all on my to-listen list. I'm also really looking forward to hearing the new Sara Evans CD (out now) and Alexz Johnson's Voodoo Reloaded (April).

day 10 - a song that makes you fall asleep//I can't think of any songs that actually make me fall asleep... lol. Meditation CDs, however, are very good for getting me relaxed and sleepy.
