Music Review: LeAnn Rimes, Lady and Gentlemen

LeAnn Rimes released her 13th album today, titled Lady and Gentlemen. It's a covers record with a little bit of a twist: almost every song on the record was originally done by a man. LeAnn covered them with a female point of view. The only exceptions are a new version of her debut single "Blue" and two brand new songs.

LeAnn Rimes "Give"

So, LeAnn has debuted her new video for her single "Give". The song is off her album Lady and Gentlemen, which will be coming out this month on the 27th. It's going to be the second alum she's release of cover songs. Her first, LeAnn Rimes, was released back in the late 90s and was great so I'm looking forward to this new one. The difference with this disc is all the songs were originally done by men except for "Give", "Crazy Women" and the remake of "Blue".

Anyway... back to the single. The song is the type of song I could see Martina McBride doing no problem. It's a slow, inspirational type song that talks about needing to give kindness and forgiveness before you can get it yourself. I do like the music and melody of the song, even if some of the lyrics are a bit cliche. I also enjoyed how LeAnn's vocals were very simple and restrained in this song. Even in the parts you'd expect the huge glory note to come out, she holds back and I think it adds something to the song.

While the video isn't the most creative, it does work with the song and I thought the bit at the end with LeAnn and the others singing live was cute. It also shows why I am still a fan after over a decade and all the tabloid drama... the girl can sing! She sounds just as good in that live acapella clip as she did in the rest of the song. So what do y'all think? Do you like it? Hate it? Don't care? Comment back and let me know!

LeAnn Scoop and Another Look Back at Brooks and Dunn

According to fans at her shows, LeAnn has announced that the first single from her new album will be called "You've Ruined Me". Interesting title, don't you think?

That said, it's time to look back again on one of my favorite Brooks and Dunn songs. my choice today? Play Something Country. The song is so fun and I can't help wanting to dance every single time I hear it. I'm sure the guys out there found plenty of reasons to like the video as well...

Anyway, here's a video of them performing the song live, thanks to bnelson01:

Hey everyone!

I've got some news regarding LeAnn Rimes today. First off... People is reporting that she and Dean are seperated and have been for awhile. No word on whether a divorce will be happening anytime soon.

Some good news is coming, too, though. I found some youtube clips of LeAnn performing new material. In the clip below, she talks about her new album coming out around the end of the year. I have to admit... I'm getting a little iffy on her personally after some of the stories out lately, but dang! The girl can sing. Not only that, she's putting out great material. Good luck to her with the new album- I'm hoping it does better than past efforts. She really does deserve recognition for the great music she's been putting out lately:

The Best and the Worst: 2008

Good Afternoon, everyone!! I’m here to start the new year off right with a look at my personal highlight and lowlights of ‘08. Feel free to share yours, too!

As I mentioned before, I loved Miranda Lambert’s increased success this year. It’s been a long time coming.

LeAnn Rimes releasing ‟What I Cannot Change‟ as a single.

Brad Paisley and Keith Urban teaming up for ‟Start a Band‟.

LeAnn Womack’s single ‟Last Call‟.

Jessica Andrews getting signed to a new label and putting out a single to country radio again.

Brad Paisley getting a taste of his own medicine when Jewel played a trick on him.

Tim McGraw letting Curb and his fans know he is not happy with the latest Greatest Hits release.

Carrie Underwood being invited to the grand Ole Opry.

Getting the chance to chat with Can You Duet? contestants and new Big Machine recording artists Kate and Kacey Coppola via MySpace.

Dolly’s ‟Jesus and Gravity‟.

Discovering the talent that is Minnie Murphy.

Sugarland’s ‟Love on the Inside‟ CD

Lowlights:

Nashville Star and the fact it had very little to do with Country this year.

A former member suing Sugarland, claiming she’s owed money from the continued success.

The passing of Eddie Arnold.

Gone Country. Hmm... John Rich isn’t doing too well this year, is he?

Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus performing on the CMT awards.

The continued delays of CDs by Jo Dee Messina, Danielle Peck and others this year. (At least Danielle finally got a digital release...)

The end of the Wreckers.

Mindy McCreedy’s continued troubles.

Jessica Simpson crossing over to Country.

Third Time's the Charm...

At least, that's what two country singers will be hoping for. Both Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood are setting their sights on new albums in 2009. While Carrie doesn't have a target date, Miranda's is scheduled for sometime in the fall.

I'm already excited for these releases. They two of my favorites and always manage to put together an album that keeps me hitting the "replay" button. I'm hoping also, given the fact Miranda's had what is probably her most successful year yet, that 2009 will be the one that sees her becoming a true star in the country world. The girl deserves more radio play and awards.

As for Carrie... I agree with the fans out there who'd like to see her try a more traditional sound. I think she does great at it and who better to take a risk like that than one of the biggest on radio? It's not like they'd shun her like they considered doing when LeAnn's "Blue" first came out. I think she's due for a more artistic record, don't you? Post your comments and let me know what you think about all this. Take care and see y'all later! I'll leave you with the song that got Miranda her first top 10: Gunpowder and Lead, courtesy of
Kristi on youtube. Enjoy!

LeAnn's Got a New Gig...

Hey, everyone! Sorry I missed you yesterday. Computer stuff. Anyway... I wanted to let you know about LeAnn Rimes' latest project. She's going to be starring in a Lifetime movie called Nora Roberts' Northern Lights. It's about an investigator who comes to a small town and meets a bush pilot named Meg (LeAnn) whose father turns up dead after they started a romance. It looks like LeAnn is going to be playing a bit of a darker character, because her charactor is said to "have demons".

I know I'll be tuning in when an airdate is announced. I'm a sucker for these made-for-TV movies anyway and LeAnn being one of the stars is just an added bonus. By the way... I found out a re-mix of her single "What I Cannot Change" has made it to #6 on the dance charts. Go her! Sadly, the real version hasn't fared as well. Let's hope her next project gets more of the This Woman treatment. Well, I'm out of here. See ya all again tomorrow with more Country Music talk. Take care!

Happy Fourth

Happy Fourth of July, everyone!! I hope you're all having a great one. I thought I'd stop in real quick and share a video of LeAnn Rimes that seems appropriate today. She's singing "America the Beautiful" on the Boston Pops Spectacular from 2003. On a related note, she'll be releasing a new single, "What I Cannot Change" in August. Be sure to keep an ear out for it!

In other singles news, Carrie Underwood is releasing "Just a Dream" on the 21st of this month. Check out the old blog for a review of Carnvial Ride where I talk about the song some. Well, that's all for now. See y'all next time. Stay safe tonight!
