LeAnn Rimes "Give"

So, LeAnn has debuted her new video for her single "Give". The song is off her album Lady and Gentlemen, which will be coming out this month on the 27th. It's going to be the second alum she's release of cover songs. Her first, LeAnn Rimes, was released back in the late 90s and was great so I'm looking forward to this new one. The difference with this disc is all the songs were originally done by men except for "Give", "Crazy Women" and the remake of "Blue".

Anyway... back to the single. The song is the type of song I could see Martina McBride doing no problem. It's a slow, inspirational type song that talks about needing to give kindness and forgiveness before you can get it yourself. I do like the music and melody of the song, even if some of the lyrics are a bit cliche. I also enjoyed how LeAnn's vocals were very simple and restrained in this song. Even in the parts you'd expect the huge glory note to come out, she holds back and I think it adds something to the song.

While the video isn't the most creative, it does work with the song and I thought the bit at the end with LeAnn and the others singing live was cute. It also shows why I am still a fan after over a decade and all the tabloid drama... the girl can sing! She sounds just as good in that live acapella clip as she did in the rest of the song. The first single from the Pistol Annies is now out and available for purchase with an album to follow on the 23rd. Can't wait! I'm a big fan of both Miranda and Ashley so it's cool to see them working together. Never heard of the other Annie until now, but she sounds good! So what do you all think? I think this review/discussion pretty much sums up my thoughts on the song really well. I would add that they sounded great together and I want more duets from them. I think my favorite part would have to be this bit right here:

Promises, Promises.... (SPOILERS for CMT Next Superstar)

So, I have a TV that is possessed and has been scanning randomly through channels. It, of course, decided to do that as I settled in to watch the latest episode. Luckily I did catch some of the end and the CMT website is helping to fill in details. First, let me share a few performances from the latest ep:

CMTs Next Superstar

So, I had a chance to watch last night's debut and I enjoyed it for the most part. I think most of the contestants are great and the format worked well.

Announcing....

CMT's Next Superstar! It's a show from the people behind American Idol that will follow 10 contestants as they compete for the top prize. It premieres on Friday, April 8th at 9 PM Eastern time. I'll be watching... will you?

CMT's Big Weekend...

So, who caught the CMT Big New Music Weekend? They debuted videos from Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Tim McGraw, Reba and more. I think the most surprising video was Carrie's. She actually dances a little bit in it! Not sure how I feel about that, but the song is fun and she sounds great.

Miranda's was one of those that actually made me like the song more. I was iffy on the lyrics, but the melody, instrumentation and visuals changed my opinion quite a bit. I don't wanna say too much about the video, cause I think it'll spoil it. Just trust me when I say it's a cute video.

Tim McGraw's Southern Voice is a feel good, relaxing kind of song, although the video kind of bored me. It was clips of him performing at the NLF Kick-Off mixed with clips of him jamming with a bunch of guys outside a store.

Reba's video for Consider Me Gone was different, yet more of the same. While she actually acted out the story herself in "Strange", the new clip has her returning to the narrator role as she plays a designer a girl comes to after having trouble with her guy.

Kenny the Policeman?

Ya’ll may have heard by now that Kenny Chesney is involved in a little bit of a controversy. He recently confiscated a camera from one of his fans at a show in Foxborough. ContryMusicNewsBlog has a great opinion piece up about it that I can’t agree more with. I wish more people in the industry would think the way whiskeychick does.

Don’t get me wrong. I sympathize with artists not wanting unreleased material out there without their approval. They have every right to try and keep that stuff from coming out if they don’t feel its up to par. Still, I think everyone could lighten up a little about concert clips and music videos. Let’s be realistic, here. Artists want the videos seen right? Well, since GAC is the only channel that I know of that features music, concerts and similar programming all day, sometimes we have to let the fans get these videos out by other means so they can be enjoyed. As WhiskeyChick says... free publicity is a good thing. So is the word-of-mouth from your fans.
