CMA Award Nominees.... Rundown and My Wishlist

So the nominees for the CMA Awards were announced today and here is the list. I am so glad to see that there is a great field this year. Add that to another Brad/Carrie hosting appearance and I will definitely be tuning on on November 9th.

So, let's go down the categories, starting wth Entertainer of the Year. I would really love to see either Brad Paisley or Blake Shelton take this one. They both are great and Blake in particular has really been providing a lot of entertainment this year and not just on stage or on The Voice. Check out his tweet about his nominations:

Random Covers- Taylor Swift does Pink, TLC

Taylor Swift has been doing some pretty random covers on her latest tour... here is a little bit of her latest, thanks to TheBoot:

Check the link above for the full story. I gotta say, I love when artists cross genres like that and do things their fans might not expect. I love that she picked those two songs in particular this time around, cause they are two of my all time favorites. What do you guys think? Did you like the covers? Is there a song you'd like to see Taylor (or another artist) try her hand at? Comment back and let me know! Til next time...

Channel Surfing, Part 2-- Drew Chambers

So, I was browsing YouTube and came across the channel for a singer named Drew Chambers. He has a mix of mostly covers with some original material that you should definitely check out. I was especially impressed by his cover of "Rolling in the Deep". Right now, though, I wanna leave you with an original track called "Like That":

This song reminds me of the kind of R&B I used to listen to in the 90s. Very smooth, soulful sounds with a great voice behind it. What do you guys think? Comment back and let me know. Don't forget to subscribe to his channel if you like what you hear. Til next time...

By the way... look out for my video blog about Lady Gaga's fans and their issue with Adele right now on my own channel.

Contests and Stuff....

So I decided to enter a cover song contest on youtube. It's for a channel called Sound Underground where artists upload their original songs. I chose this song to cover. Look up the original, too.... beautiful song!

In other news, been watching some reruns of some old favorites lately: The Golden Girls and In Living Color. Every time I hear either theme song, I go back to being a kid and laughing hysterically at Homie D. Clown and Miss Bonita. One of my favorite bits was the Dirty Dozens when Ed O'Neill guested as the grand champion. It's sad that there is nothing quite like this on TV any more.

The Golden Girls is another great example of that. There are very few casts, IMO, that were as perfect as the Girls. There really wasn't a weak link for me- everyone cracked me up. I especially love the mother/daughter relationship between Dorothy and Sophia.

So, did you watch any of these shows back then (or do you now?) What do you think of them? Are there any scenes in particular that are favorites? Let me know! I guess that's about it for now. Take care and see ya next time. I hope to get another video blog done in the next day or two as well, so look out for that.

Pink

So, I'm sitting here and thinking over some things to write while I listen to Pink's concert special from her Funhouse tour. I really love this special. From the originals to her cover songs, it's perfection and so much fun to watch. I think a huge part of that is the fact that she and her band look like they're having such a great time. When an artist is completely emgrossed in and completely enjoying what they do, you can't go wrong.
If I had to pick some favorites, I would have to go for 1) The cover of "Bohemion Rhapsody" by Queen. It's an incredible song and I was amazed that they were able to do it such justice. 2) I really liked her performance of "Funhouse". It was so much fun to watch and a great representation of the video as well. I would say more, but I have to limit the list a little right? :)

Stay tuned because I will be posting other thoughts on concert DVDs/Specials here and there from different genres. Before I go, I wanted to let you know that I have been very busy lately. I updated my website, made a facebook page and have added some songs to my youtube playlists. Hope you enjoy and I'll see y'all next time.

YouTube

Well, I have made myself a youtube channel and have already posted several favorites. I hope y'all will subscribe to it. I'll be using it to share video blogs, covers as I can, favorite songs, playlists... all that kind of thing.

Hope you enjoy!

Coverage

As you probably know from my earlier post, I was busy browsing the country news site The Boot today. I was pleasently surprised to come across this post. It's Little Big Town doing a cover of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep". As you might have seen, I am a huge fan of Adele and the song, and I think they did it justice. Enjoy and please feel free to share your own thoughts about the song!

By the way... if you look just below the video, you will see they have done quite a few other cover videos including a Lady Gaga one and a Bruno Mars cover. I just love when genres collide... :)

Covers...

Just had to share this video... it's of a buddy of mine, Ieshia, singing Selena's "Como La Flor". I think she did a great job covering this one... how about you?

Cover Songs....

Came across an interesting version of "Everytime" by Britney Spears, performed by a man. Check it out here:

For comparision, here is the original by Britney:

I have to say, I kind of enjoyed his take on it. I think the song sounds better as a guitar driven song as opposed to piano. What do you think? Comment and let me know!

Daily Dose of Cool...

I was browsing yahoo news when I saw this story about Lady Gaga inviting a kid who did a cover of one of her songs to do a duet with her. I went searching more and found the cover on youtube. Here it is:

I'm very impressed.... the kid is good :)Good luck to her on her big concert debut! And go Gaga for giving her the opportunity.

Megan Mullins...

Hey, everyone! I don't know if I've mentioned her here before, but I think Megan Muillns is great. I love that song she put out a couple of years ago and I'm sorry I haven't seen her on CMT or GAC much. Well, I just read that she's posting weekly cover songs now! Check out the first one, a cover of Dolly's Jolene:
